Meet the Instructor.

About Alex James

Alex James discovered her love for dance at just seven years old when she began hip-hop classes at Danswest Tucson. What started as a childhood activity quickly became a lifelong passion. Over the years, she trained across a wide spectrum of styles—ballet, jazz, lyrical, modern, femme, waacking, poppin’ & lockin’, breakdancing, and pole fitness—developing a deep connection to movement as a form of expression, confidence, and storytelling.

In 2018, Alex stepped into choreography, working with clients for quinceañeras and weddings. Through these experiences, she found purpose in helping others feel confident, empowered, and fully present during some of the most important moments of their lives.

After experiencing personal loss in January 2020, Alex made the decision to fully pursue her passion. She founded LiberarLa—meaning “Liberate Her”—a movement centered on empowering women to reconnect with their strength, confidence, and identity. When the COVID-19 pandemic brought events and bookings to a sudden stop, Alex chose not to step back, but to lean further into her vision and continue building her path forward.

During this chapter, she also embraced the role of stepmother, which deepened her understanding of connection, responsibility, and the importance of community. This experience reinforced her mission to create spaces where women—especially mothers—feel supported, seen, and valued.

By 2022, Alex became a pole fitness instructor, where she cultivated a strong, supportive community and helped individuals of all backgrounds step into their confidence. Guiding beginners to overcome self-doubt and embrace their bodies became a defining part of her work, further solidifying her belief that movement can be both healing and transformative.

In 2025, Alex relocated to Cochise County to be closer to family and reconnect with her roots. In that quieter chapter of life, she found space to reflect, rebuild, and reconnect with her passion for dance and community.

Today, Alex teaches dance classes in Tucson and Benson, Arizona, and continues to choreograph for special events. Through her work and her brand, LiberarLa, she is dedicated to helping women build confidence, explore self-expression, and create lives without limitation—including using alter egos as a bridge to their most authentic selves.

Looking ahead, Alex is expanding her mission with intention—empowering women to recognize that they have always been their own source of power. By 2027, LiberarLa plans to travel to cities nationwide, hosting workshops and dance bootcamps that encourage women to release limitations, reconnect with their bodies, and step fully into who they are.

If you’re interested in working with Alex for choreography, coaching, or a special event, she invites you to connect and be part of the movement.
